MATRIX STUDIES AND VALIDATION OF IMMUNOASSAYS FOR INSECT INFESTATION IN GRAINS AND THEIR MILLED PRODUCTS.

Abstract

The successful development of the immunoassay was adopted to detect insect infestation in stored grains and their milled products. The method of myosin extraction from food, effect of the co-extractants on immunoassay has been performed as Matrix-study. The word ‘Matrice’ indicates the presence of co-extracted substances from the food sample is known as matrix. This may interfere in the determination of a specific contaminant and give false positive or false negative results thereby reducing the sensitivity of the assay. The interference by the food matrix was overcome by dilution method. Finally the assay method was validated with Spike and Recovery experiments.
