Abstract (RBIP-04)

The Current research work involves preparation of fast dissolving tablets using Plantago Ovata and LepidiumSativum mucilage as natural superdisintegrants. The mucilages from PlantagoOvata and LepidiumSativum seeds were extracted using the method suggested by S.B.Shirsand et al. The superdisintegrants were used in different ratios (1%, 3%, 5% and 7%) individually. Eight batches (F1-F8) of fast dissolving tablets of Losartan Potassium were formulated using Direct compression method. The various batches were evaluated for Disintegration time, Friability, Weight Variation, Hardness, Wetting time, Water absorption ratio and invitro drug release.Disintegration time forplantagoovata batches (F1-F4) was found to be 54sec, 40sec, 20sec and 16sec and for Lepidiumsativum batches (F5-F8) showed 53sec, 38 sec, 18 sec and 15 sec respectively.Friability of various batches including plantagoovata (F1-F4) was found to be 0.68%, 0.77%, 0.71% and 0.73% andLepidiumsativum(F5-F8) was found to be 0.64%, 0.82%, 0.75% and 0.72% respectively. All the batches passed Weight variation test as per USP.Hardness of various eight batches of tablets was found to be in the range of 2.5-3.5Kg/cm2.Wetting time ofPlantagoovata(F1-F4) was found to be 25sec, 18sec, 14sec and 13sec and forLepidiumSativum (F5-F8) was found to be 23sec, 16sec, 12sec and 10sec respectively.Water absorption ratio of batches (F1-F4) was found to be 112%, 120%, 128% and 130% and for batches(F5-F8) showed 110%, 119%, 126% and 128% respectively.Invitro Drug release of various batches (F1-F8) shows more than 85% release in 15 min and 100% drug release was achieved with in 30 min for all batches.
