Abstract

Alstonia scholaris is one of the most important plants of family Apocynaceae to which various other plant with strong therapeutic potential belong. The roots of plants have been least studied. The present study is therefore carried out to investigate the cytotoxic properties of isoprapanol extract of roots of Alstonia scholaris. The data obtained from this study showed that the magnitude of cytotoxicity was maximum for concentration of 1mg/ml of the extract while had lesser effect at lower concentrations. The results were also found to be time dependent and lethality was maximum in case of 24 hrs. The cell viability was found to decrease with the increase in the concentration of the isopropanol extract.
