Abstract

The different fractions of root extract of Lawsonia inermis (LI) namely ethyle acetate (LIEAC), alcoholic (LIALC), petroleum ether (LIPET), buthanol (LIBUT) and aqueous (LIAQ) were evaluated for their in vitro cytotoxic activities in EAC (Ehrlich’s ascetic carcinoma) cells and protective activities on DOX (doxorubicin) and CYCLO(cyclophosphamide) challenged human lymphocyte cells by tryphan blue assay. All the fractions of LI showed concentration dependant cytotoxicity in range of 20 to 100 μg/ml. The % cytotoxicity of LIALC, LIEAC and LIBUT was more with the IC50 of 52.37±2.13, 51.06±0.54, 55.20±0.78 respectively. Among the fractions tested the protective activity of LIEAC, LIALC and LIBUT was more with % viability, on DOX challenged human lymphocytes 83.38±0.12, 78.58±0.17, and 72.01±0.45 and on CYCLO challenged human lymphocytes 81.70±0.25, 80.90±0.40 and 78.96±0.46 respectively.
